Museums & Historic Sites
Bradley Academy has the distinction of being the first school established in Rutherford County. The origin of Bradley Academy as an institution of learning stems from the Congressional Land Grant Act of 1806. Bradley Academy soon established itself as a well known institution of learning in the Middle Tennessee community. James K. Polk and John Bell would become some of the early scholars to attend Bradley Academy during this period of time.
Historic Cannonsburgh Village represents approximately 100 years of early Tennessee life from the 1830s to the 1930s. Within the village is a gristmill, school house, telephone operator’s house, the University House, the Leeman House, a museum, a caboose, the Wedding Chapel, a doctor’s office, a general store, a blacksmith’s shop, a well, and other points of pioneering interest.
Fortress Rosecrans
Through most of 1863, Fortress Rosecrans served as a critical forward supply base for the Federals during their campaigns to seize and hold the vital rail junction town of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The Historic Courthouse stands in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. It was built in 1859 and is one of only six remaining Tennessee courthouses from before the Civil War.

The Sam Davis Memorial Association preserves the Sam Davis Home to keep alive the story of Sam Davis, his family, and the people who labored on this Middle Tennessee farm before, during, and after the Civil War. Through museum exhibits, the historic home, preserved farm land, and quality education programs, the SDMA imparts to its visitors the importance of learning about their past and its relevance to their present.
Stones River National Battlefield
The Battle of Stones River began on the last day of 1862 and was one of the bloodiest conflicts of the Civil War. The battle produced important military and political gains for the Union, and it changed forever the people who lived and fought here.
